Ruby Pitiroi attended a Welcome Home First Steps workshop to find out information about building on multiple-owned Māori land. While Ruby found that the process was sometimes hard-going, she felt the course provided her with a first step in the right direction.
Ruby had been paying rent for "as long as we’d been living in a house", but now that she owns her own home she is happy that “money will now be injected back into our whānau”. The biggest benefit for the Pitirois is they now own a house on their papakainga. “We, our whānau and wider whānau now have a place to come to.”
“I’m really happy that my children will grow up on their land, and for their whānau to be able to come and enjoy the land too.”
